Foundation located near slope: a FLAC study.
In: 1st International FLAC/DEM Symposium on Numerical Modeling, 25-27 Aug 2008, Minneapolis, USA.
Abstract
For a footing-on-slope system, the ultimate bearing capacity of the footing may be the one that is governed by either the foundation bearing capacity failure or the overall stability of the slope. Indeed the interaction of the above two factors makes the problem difficult to solve. This paper demonstrates that computer programs, such as FLAC, can be used to analyze the problem effectively. Design charts are presented to investigate the change in bearing capacity of an existing foundation due to slope excavation.
