Unravelling the 'Double Bind' of Women Artists through the Student as Partners Approach.
NiTRO: Non Traditional Research Outcomes (37).
Abstract
Women-artists often encounter a 'double-bind' which involves an irreconcilable social demand of being 'too much or not enough' within their professional careers. Women academics find themselves juggling their teaching or study and the expectation for prolific creative outcomes, while simultaneously being wary of coming across as being 'too visible,' as not to unsettle the status quo. In turn, this paper explores the Students as Partners approach as means of empowering women artists in academia through its offering of more inclusive, ethical and sustainable education practices in creative arts.
