Abstract

In 2013 the Library at the University of Southern Queensland partnered with learning support teams within the University in a project to develop an institutional learning objects repository to store, manage and provide access to the large number of learning objects contained within the 1200 courses offered by USQ. The management of the new repository has created an opportunity for the Library to expand its digital content management away from the traditional range of digital content managed by Libraries – course readings/eReserve, Library guides and tutorials, student theses and dissertations and institutional research output. This presentation will share the processes, pitfalls and advantages involved with the development and implementation of the learning objects repository, including system design and development, implementation and roll-out, communication and training, responding to feedback and redefining business processes. It will also share the journey around creating a new team within the Library in a relatively new area in the Library profession, and the opportunities this has created.
