Abstract

This chapter aims to investigate the possible impact of the English graduation tests on English teaching and learning in Grade 12 at Ngo Quyen High School in Vietnam. The English graduation tests are national. The main purpose was to identify the different aspects of these tests that could influence teaching and learning. The study analysed the tests from 2013 to 2015 in order to identify typical patterns. In addition, the research methodology included classroom observations conducted with two English teachers in charge of Grade 12 at Ngo Quyen High School during the 2014-2015 period. The results of the study pointed out the negative relationship between the English graduation tests from 2013 to 2015, and English school teaching and learning.
