Abstract

Our research explored the benefits and impacts of a Samoan-immersion kindergarten programme (a’oga amata). In partnership with three community organisations, it addressed how the a’oga amata supports heritage language and culture, builds a positive Samoan identity in a culturally safe space and enhances children’s school readiness. Using a range of qualitative methods, our research also compiled an initial picture of the lived experience of Samoan children, families, caregivers and other stakeholders involved with the a’oga amata.
