Working dogs are invaluable in situations ranging from urban search and rescue to invalid care. However, they can only provide limited information to the humans working with them, and must remain close to their handlers for effective operation. Augmenting dogs with wearable sensors and wireless communications equipment improves their ability to work with humans and operate remotely, creating a more effective and capable team. This paper describes the development of a modular system of wearable technology for augmenting canines, providing a foundation for future research in this area.
