Abstract
In this chapter, we outline some of the major characteristics in the current practice of large-scale writing assessment. In particular, we present the assessment practice and test framework of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) in the United States. Its assessment content, item format, scoring method, evaluation criteria, and delivery platform are documented. We also evaluate whether its current practice is in line with the concerns expressed in the writing research community.
