Open transformation of academic publishing: a review of open access developments in the west in 2014

Ren, Xiang (2015) Open transformation of academic publishing: a review of open access developments in the west in 2014. Technology and Publishing (Keji yu Chuban) (2). pp. 9-14. ISSN 1005-0590

Abstract

This invited review looks at OA developments in the US and EU from three perspectives: OA policies, 'gold' OA, and 'green OA'. The OA mandates have become a global trend, but the practical transformation of academic publishing remains uncertain. Some crucial questions remain unanswered such as how to achieve sustainability of openness and how to balance the interests among publishers, libraries, academic communities, and the public.
