Abstract
A partnership between the New South Wales Department of Education and Training and the University of New England (UNE) is using the connected-classroom and synchronous videoconferencing to rethink the delivery of teacher training and pre-service teacher supervision as well as engage experienced practitioners in the field. Geographic barriers faced by many pre-service teachers in rural and remote areas can be broken down, connecting them with academic staff at their university or with experienced teachers at other schools. Using this approach, pre-service teachers can undertake their placements in their local environment, knowing that the university can deliver supervision and engagement with pre-service teachers and teacher mentors. Based on a reflective practice model this approach is sustainable, creates real time engagement between academic staff, teacher mentors and pre-service teachers as well as providing the opportunity to capture
and store lessons taught by pre-service teachers and experienced practitioners.
