Abstract

Santos GLNG has adopted a strategy to employ a portfolio of water treatment solutions to enable the beneficial utilisation of coal seam (CS)water in agricultural irrigation, managed aquifer recharge and project
construction/dust suppression.
Santos is treating CS water by:
Reverse osmosis desalination (RO); chemical amendment[to
neutralise alkalinity & lower sodium adsorption ratio (SAR)]
in dedicated CS water treatment plants (AWAFs); land
amendment irrigation (chemical amendment of CS water in the soil); and blending water(mixing RO permeate + raw CS water
+ AWAF - treated CS water). This strategy enables Santos to
meet specific target water qualities using sustainable and
cost effective treatment options.
