Teachers talking about teaching literacy: community, mobility, and literacy reform

Henderson, Robyn (2012) Teachers talking about teaching literacy: community, mobility, and literacy reform. In: 3rd International Conference on Language, Education and Diversity (LED 2011), 22-25 Nov 2011, Auckland, New Zealand.

Abstract

In recent years, considerable public attention has been focused on the quality of school literacy teaching and literacy teachers, often associated with simplistic arguments that have resulted in teacher bashing. This colloquium moves beyond broad generalisations to consider the complexities of three specific contexts: secondary pre-service teachers' literacy skills and needs (Radha Iyer); teachers' understandings about teaching literacies in classes with mobile students (Robyn Henderson); and teachers' conceptions of using digital literacies and media as part of productive literacy programs.
