Description

Research Background—Field, Context and Research SNO contemporary art space in Sydney is a gallery space which specialises in exhibiting artists who are involved in geometric and conceptually based art practices. They have links with other likeminded spaces such as the 2 galleries I am represented by: CCNOA gallery, Brussels, Belgium and Minus Space, New York, USA. For this solo exhibition I showed a series of new paintings, wall painting and sculptural reliefs. These paintings were a continuation of the same issues my artistic methodology has been engaged with for 13 years. Research Contribution—Innovation/New knowledge The artwork produced for this exhibition was concerned with investigating the connection between formal (hard edge) and informal (biomorphic / intuitive) methodologies of abstraction through the construction of space. My chief focus lies with examining the mapping and reconstruction of imagined spaces through a variety of visual outcomes. As humans we confine, expand and grid space and our individual interpretations of space into evolving forms of activity and thus the original work I produce engages with a variety of physical and conceptually focused outcomes that deal with these issues. Research Significance—Evidence of excellence This exhibition enabled me to exhibit with SNO gallery a new series of paintings which further me to develop issues of abstraction, space and architecture inherent within my practice and my research concerns. Also all exhibitions such as this enhance further professional links with other practitioners within art which have led to further opportunities to enhance my artistic research nationally and internationally. I have been included consistently in these exhibitions nationally & internationally for 13 years, due to my original research in conflating various forms of historical and conceptually based forms of abstraction. Thus my practice has consistantly been recognised nationally and internationally through its links with both historical and contemporary based notions of abstraction, research and theory. http://www.sno.org.au/archive/show-21/
