Abstract

Various percentages of coiled carbon nanotubes (CCNTs) and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) added into the epoxy resin were mixed by mechanical stirring and then mould forming to a dog-bone shape samples. The mechanical properties of the composites were characterized in terms of nanoindentation tests and tensile tests. Hardness and elastic modulus were measured using a nanoindenter. In situ scanning electron microscopy studies were employed to investigate the deformation mechanisms and interlocking of the coiled nanotubes in matrix.
